History of Perry Studio
Speech & Drama skills are an asset for life
In 1959 Glennys Perry opened a small Speech and Drama studio at 100 Alexandra Street, North Ward. Over the next decade, Glennys steadily established a large, successful studio of more than 400 students at Taylor St, Belgian Gardens, where she introduced hundreds of children to the magnificent world of speech and drama. From 1979 Fiona was a young apprentice to Glennys.
When Theatre was first introduced as a syllabus subject in Queensland schools in 1989, Glennys decided to build the subject into popularity and academic success at Townsville Grammar School, while Fiona directed the Speech & Drama studio. Eventually, Fiona became Head of Drama at Townsville Grammar while continuing the studio.
In 2022, Perry Studio returned to centre stage and started full time enrolments for children from 5 years and through to adult.
Many alumni of Perry Studio have made remarkable careers in theatre, film, and television. Some are famous. Some channelled their valuable dramatic skills into other careers such as teaching, law, medicine, management, design, business, marketing, advertising, dentistry, photography and public relations.
